Vince Gill’s career began in the 1970s when he fronted a country band known as Pure Prairie League. His proficiency with multiple instruments and his abilities as a songwriter led him to consider a solo in the early 1980s. By all accounts, this was a good choice. Over the 25 years that followed, Gill earned 18 CMA awards and 19 Grammies. His breakthrough hit came in 1989 with “When I Call Your Name.” Gill was at the forefront of the movement that led country music out of the honky-tonks and into the mainstream. He has appeared on the albums of virtually every significant country star of the 90s.
