Michael Brecker was widely considered to be the best tenor saxophone player since John Coltrane. The awards seemed to back that praise up. Brecker earned 15 Grammies and was inducted posthumously into the Jazz Hall of Fame. During his storied career, he played alongside jazz’s greatest names, including Charles Mingus and Herbie Hancock. The definitive performance of his career was when he honored John Coltrane by playing his signature piece, Naima, during a tour in 2001.
